McCabe had lost three of his last four Challenger Tour matches, but he did withdraw in one of the losses when it was one-set all. In the qualifying round of the ATP Shanghai Masters, McCabe lost without winning a set to third-seeded in qualifying James Duckworth. McCabe also lost in the last 16 of the Shenzhen 2 Challenger, where he retired against the Chinese Yunchaokete Bu. McCabe's last win was in the last 16 of the recent Matsuyama Challenger Tour event, where he played against the Portuguese Frederico Ferreira Silva. McCabe reached the last four of a Challenger Tour event in September, which he retired to 25years old Mikalai Haliak.
