Ayr United have a tough task if they want to maintain their hopes of playing in the Scottish Premiership next season. They host Partick Thistle in the second leg of this semi-final needing to claw back a 3-0 deficit. The first leg went all wrong for Ayr who finished second in the main Scottish Championship table. That was two places and a point ahead of their opponents but league placings count for nothing in thiese play-off games. Ayr will need to take inspiration from Sheffield Wednesday who overturned a 4-0 loss last week. Home form for Ayr saw them win seven out of 15 league games but two of the last three have ended level. Only four times have they scored more than two goals in a home league game this season. One of those was last October when beating Partick 4-2 on home soil. Since then they have lost to Partick 1-0 at home in February.

Some teams with a big lead might consider playing very defensively in the second leg. Partick most likely won't do that and are in excellent goalscoring form. In the play-off quarter-finals they beat Queen's Park 4-3 at home and then won the away second leg 4-0. They come into this match having scored 11 goals in their last three matches. Partick have scored at least twice in eight of theiir last nine matches. They only won six away league fixtures this season and lost seven. However, most of those away losses came in October and November. Partick only lost one of their last eight away games in the main season. A double chance bet on them is our suggested wager here.
