Atalanta vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting Tips - Europa League
by Ian John | in Europa League Prediction
Atalanta head into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Liverpool in Bergamo with a deserved 3-0 lead from the first leg. The Italian side provided a masterclass of how to beat Liverpool at Anfield and earned their second successive win to nil at the home of the Reds following a 2-0 win back in November 2020. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his misfiring team can be as clinical as they were on their last trip to Bergamo, when they thrashed Atalanta 5-0, just a few weeks before losing the aforementioned return game at Anfield. The winner of this tie will face either Benfica or Marseille in the semi-final.

Atalanta - Liverpool: Form Analysis
Atalanta have won just three of their last 11 games in all competitions, losing four and drawing four. However, their form in the Europa League has been impressive. Gian Piero Gasperini's team won six and drew three of their nine games so far, scoring 18 goals and conceding just six. The Bergamo-based team topped Group D with 14 points, finishing ahead of Sporting Lisbon. They then knocked Sporting out of the competition in the Round of 16, drawing 1-1 in Portugal before winning 2-1 at home. Atalanta followed up their famous win at Anfield with a 2-2 draw at home against Hellas Verona on Monday in the Serie A. The home side don't keep too many clean sheets, with just two shut-outs in their last 11 matches, both of which came away from home in wins against Napoli and Liverpool.
It is fair to say that Liverpool need another miracle performance to come through this tie. Jurgen Klopp's team have been hugely wasteful in front of goal in the last few games and they are now without a win in three. They suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, marking the first time all season that Liverpool have lost two consecutive matches. The Reds have lost two of their four away games in the Europa League this season, but still topped Group E with 12 points, scoring 17 goals in their six group stage games. Last time out in the Europa League, the Reds put 11 goals past Sparta Prague over two legs. They will need a very similar performance here if they are to have any chance in this tie. No team has scored more goals in Europe than Liverpool this season and the away team will need those goals to stand any chance here.

Atalanta & Liverpool Squad Analysis
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be without two players through injury for the second leg as both defenders Giorgio Scalvini and Sead Kolasinac will miss the game with muscular injuries. No players are suspended for this match, but Berat Gjimshiti, Isak Hien, Emil Holm, Ademola Lookman and Marten de Roon are just one booking away from missing a possible semi final. Gianluca Scamacca, who scored a double at Anfield, is the man in form in front of goal for Atalanta with five goals in his seven Europa League games this season.
Liverpool's injury crisis has improved in the past ten days or so. Joel Matip and Thiago are still not fit and won't play this season. Additionally, young fullback Connor Bradley is a doubt after being taken off injured against Crystal Palace last weekend. Stefan Bajcetic is closing in on a return to the first team, while Trent Alexander Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota all made their return to action in the last week. Manager Jurgen Klopp has the luxury of a much stronger squad for this game. He'll need it given the huge task facing his Liverpool team here, and also with another tricky away game against Fulham coming up at the weekend.
