Sixth placed Aston Villa will look to resume their late-season charge for Europa League qualification when they host Fulham who are ninth in the Premier League on Tuesday night.  Under the guidance of Unai Emery, Villa looks like a side transformed and have emerged as one of the best teams in the Premier League over the last two months. The hosts played out a 1-1 draw in their last match against Brentford over the weekend, which saw their incredible record in recent weeks extended to nine matches unbeaten, including seven wins and two draws. They ended the weekend only two points behind fifth placed Tottenham and will go ahead of them with a win over Fulham. Following a poor start to the season, Villa now have a home record of nine wins, two draws, and five losses and comes into this match riding a four-match win streak at Villa Park, keeping consecutive clean sheets in each of those matches. The Villains have not competed in European Cup competition since the 2010-11 season, and with the form they’re in, they’ll feel that this could be the year that they break their over decade-long wait. 

Meanwhile, Fulham were involved in the European competition qualification battle for the majority of the mid-season but fell off in the last two months owing to four consecutive league defeats in their last six matches, along with a loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final. The Cottagers have looked better in the last week, though, picking up important wins over Everton and Leeds in their last two matches, which has gotten them back into the top half of the table, currently ninth with 45 points after 31 matches, eight points behind the top five sides. Fulham’s away record this season has been their major downfall, with a record of six wins, two draws, and seven losses in 15 matches on the road. Fulham won the reverse fixture 3-0, but they will know that their opponents have improved significantly this year and may find it difficult to come away with the win in this one with their talisman, Aleksander Mitrovic, still out for a few more weeks.
