Aston Villa come into their game with Brentford on Saturday afternoon somewhat reeling from a 4-1 demolition job by Manchester City in midweek. Unai Emery's team had pulled level in the game, but conceded a goal just before half time which then saw City push home that advantage, despite the home side resting key men for the game. Additionally, Villa's home form has been up and down of late. A win over Wolves came after a 4-0 home loss to Spurs and then a win at Villa Park over Nottingham Forest came after home defeats to Chelsea in the FA Cup and Man Utd in the League. The Villains still lie fourth in the table after 31 games, on 59 points, but Spurs are now just two points behind them with a game in hand in the battle for fourth and a confirmed spot in the Champions League next season.

Brentford's run of games without a win stretched to 8 in midweek after they followed up a 1-1 home draw with Manchester United with a 0-0 draw, also at home, to Brighton. It was a rare goalless draw for Brentford, the first of the season in fact in the Premier League and it means that they lie 15th in the table, six clear of Luton in 18th and with a better goal difference than the Hatters by eight. However, Thomas Frank will know his sides' performances since mid-November has been relegation form with just 3 wins in 20 games and only 3 draws in that run too, all of which have come in their last three home games. Away from home, they have lost nine of the last ten, their sole win coming away to Wolves back in February.
