As she continues her quest for a first French Open title, top seed Aryna Sabalenka faces 25th seed Diana Shnaider next. This quarter-final is the first meeting between the two. With 11 losses already and struggling against top players, our prediction doesn’t favor Shnaider.

Sabalenka has blazed through her path in Paris and is very likely to finally emerge winner at this major. The world number one lost in last year’s final to Cori Gauff, who has since been eliminated.

Iga Swiatek, who has also been a thorn in her side at Roland Garros, is also out of the tournament. Only two other top-10 ranked players are still competing.

Yet to drop a set in the French capital, Sabalenka ousted former world number one Naomi Osaka in the fourth round. She has now won 31 of 34 matches and is 8-2 on clay.

Shnaider is having her best-ever run at Roland Garros and at any other major. The Russian had only once before made it to the second week at a Slam and had never progressed past the second round in Paris.

Shnaider won her first three fixtures in straights and, to advance to the last eight, won a decider against Madison Keys. The 22-year-old has had an upturn in form since the season switched to clay.

She has won nine clay duels, improving to a 17-11 record, and has also returned to the WTA top 20.
