Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina is the 23rd seed in this Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament. He takes on unseeded Arthur Fils in round two after receiving a first round bye. The winner of this match will face either a qualifier or fifth seeded Casper Ruud in the last 32. Fokina had a good run in this outdoor hard court tournament last year with a run to the last eight. This year has gone well with two quarter finals reached. One was on the indoor hard courts of Marseille, the other outdoors in Dubai. He needed that good run in Dubai after losing three matches in a row. He's 2-1 up in previous meetings against Fils but is still waiting to beat his opponent on a hard court.

Arthur Fils was ranked 43rd when this tournament got underway. That's nine places below his career high of 34th. His 2024 got off to a great start with a quarter final in Hong Kong and then reaching the last four in Auckland.
