Arsenal - Liverpool: Form Analysis
Hosts Arsenal go into this game looking to rise from two straight losses that ended their 2023 on a low. It hasn’t been a great run in recent matches for Arsenal, and the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side is high. The only time they avoided defeat in the last three games was in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. Arsenal take into this game one win in their last six matches. That win, a 2-0 outcome against Brighton was also a labored one and Arteta will want a break here. While they’ve done well at home, Arsenal’s last home match didn’t live to their expectations, losing 2-0 to West Ham United. It won’t help much that in the last 10 meetings with Liverpool, Arsenal have just one win inside 90 minutes. However, they’ve avoided defeat in their last three meetings with Liverpool, the last two ending in draws. The Gunners have a good scoring run at home too. For the first time in 13 home matches this season, Arsenal failed to score when they fell to West Ham United.
Liverpool have taken full advantage of Arsenal’s slump and go into this game five points ahead of the Gunners. However, their league gains will not matter here as they seek to advance to the fourth round of this competition. The Reds will be targeting a first win over Arsenal in four meetings. Doing this without a number of their key players makes the job harder. Despite being clearly weakened, Liverpool will hope to build on a 4-2 win over Newcastle United last time out. They are unbeaten in five matches, winning three. In their last 10 games, Liverpool have managed seven wins. A key weakness they’ll want to work on is that of conceding first in their away matches. It has happened three times in the last five away matches.

Arsenal & Liverpool Squad Analysis
Arsenal would have wished for the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations to come much later. The two tournaments will see the Gunners miss two key players for at least a month. They just released defender Takehiro Tomiyasu and midfielder Thomas Partey for the competitions. Tomiyasu who recovered from injury to feature against Fulham is away with Japan while Partey has heeded a call from Ghana. Jurrien Timber and Fabio Viera are still in the treatment room with ACL and groin injuries respectively. The Gunners will have more defensive problems with Oleksandr Zinchenko doubtful with a calf problem. At Liverpool, the injury problem still persists. Ben Doak, out with a knee issue, is sharing the treatment room with Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip. A recent addition to this list is Dominik Szoboszlai who limped off in the Newcastle United game. Meanwhile, Wataru Endo is away with Japan for the Asian Cup. Jurgen Klopp’s side will also be without key forward Mo Salah who is away with Egypt for the AFCON finals.

Arsenal vs Liverpool - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score
Both teams have scored in three of Arsenal’s last five matches. It is increasingly becoming rare for Arsenal to keep clean sheets and we expect them to struggle on that front here too. Liverpool have also shown this as a major weakness. We will back both teams to score here.
