Sixth seed Cori Gauff is lined up to play unseeded Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova on Monday at the French Open. Progressing from this fourth round tie will set up a quarterfinal showdown against top seed Iga Swiatek or unseeded Lesia Tsurenko. Schmiedlova has been in terrific form in Paris and is yet to drop a set. She beat qualifier Kayla Day 6-1, 6-3 in the previous round. The win, her 15th of the season and seventh on clay moved her up a massive 27 places to 73rd in the live ranking. However, Schmiedlova has struggled throughout the season. She currently has a record of 15 wins and 12 losses.

Cori Gauff defeated Schmiedlova in Madrid last season in their only other previous encounter. She will be confident of doubling her advantage in this fixture despite her shaky start here. The American has dropped two sets in the three matches she has played. In both matches, she was forced to come back from a losing position. In the last round, she defeated Mirra Andreeva. Despite the win, Gauff slipped two places down to eighth in the live ranking after dropping 1060 ranking points. Having reached the final here last season, Gauff will target at least equaling this feat to try and win back those points. She has nonetheless been in fine form this year and has won 21 of the 29 matches she has played. Cori Gauff has one title in the bag.
