French Open qualifier Maja Chwalinska is set to face 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya in the quarter-finals to mark their first career meeting. Chwalinska has failed to win a set just once in 10 matches. She’s facing Kalinskaya, who lost one in each of her last two matches, our prediction is for three sets.

Kalinskaya is enjoying her best-ever performance at Roland Garros. Before this year, the Russian had never progressed past the second round in Paris. Now she is two wins away from contesting a first-ever final at a major.

To advance to the last eight, Kalinskaya outdueled Anastasia Potapova, winning in three sets. Her fourth win in the French capital bumped her five places up in the live rankings and back to the WTA top 20 at position 19.

Maja Chwalinska has been this year’s surprise package at the French Open. The Pole is having an exciting main draw debut campaign and is the only qualifier still in Paris.

Chwalinska is the first qualifier in six years to reach the last eight at Roland Garros. To achieve this feat, the 24-year-old beat Diane Parry in straight sets.

She has now won seven consecutive matches and has dropped just one set in this streak. Chwalinska, who has competed mainly outside the tour this season, has shot up a massive 65 places in the world rankings. She is now 49th which is a new career high.
