Anderlecht vs Standard Liege Prediction & Betting Tips - Belgian Cup

The final fixture of the Belgian Cup round of 16 sees a Clasico matchup as Anderlecht play host to Standard Liege. The winner of this tie will advance to a quarter-finals matchup against either Union SG or Beveren. Anderlecht have rebounded well this season after a disastrous campaign last year saw them finish 11th in the Belgian Pro League. They’re currently sitting second in the standings with 10 wins, four draws and two defeats, placing them four points off leaders USG. Les Mauves et Blancs have been powered by their formidable home form and excellent scoring record which has them averaging 2.00 goals scored per game. Anderlecht earned a 1-0 away win over second-division club La Louviere in the previous round to advance to the final 16. Their most recent fixture saw them run out 3-1 winners away from home over Westerlo last Friday. 

Standard Liege’s struggles over the last few seasons show no signs of letting up as they once again find themselves battling for a top-half position. Following their own catastrophic season which saw them finish 14th in 2021/22, Les Rouches seemed to be on the up after a sixth-place finish last season. However, they’ve regressed this year and currently find themselves sitting ninth in the table with a 5-5-6 record. The visitors advanced to this stage after a dominant 5-0 home victory over second-division side Harelbeke. Standard’s most recent outing saw them lose 2-0 to Club Brugge on the road. The 10-time Pro League A champions have now managed just one win in their last five league fixtures with three ending in defeat. Standard’s defense has let them down on the road this season where they have conceded 16 times in eight trips. This has led to a -8 goal differential compared to +1 at home and a 2-2-4 away record.
