Unseeded Alexander Shevchenko takes on the 22nd seed Francisco Cerundolo at Indian Wells. This is a match in the second round of this outdoor hard court ATP Masters 1000 tournament. It's the last 64 and the seeded opponent in the next round is 16th seed Ben Shelton. Shevchenko was ranked 51st at the start of this tournament but down to 57th in the live rankings due to him being about to drop points earned when winning a Challenger Tour event last April. He's also 51st in the Live ATP Race after his first round three-set victory over Dominik Koepfer. Shevchenko has reached two quarter finals this year, both in indoor hard court events. Those were in Rotterdam and Montpellier. He's 3-0 up in previous meetings with Cerundolo but all of those matches were played on clay.

Francisco Cerundolo is the 22nd seed but has only won five of his 12 matches this year. The Argentinian is just below his opponent in the Live ATP Race having earned five ranking points less than him this year. Cerundolo comes into this tournament in poor form on hard courts having lost three of his last four matches. He's been playing on clay in South America in recent weeks and after losing his first two matchs made it to the last four in Rio. He lost to Sebastian Baez in straight sets. The first set was close but he lost it 7-5 and failed to win a game in the second. We tip Shevchenko to win this match.
