British wild card Jacob Fearnley has struggled on the ATP Tour this year. Round one of Wimbledon sees him face American Alex Michelsen who has never won a main draw match here. Looking at their stats, a long match is likely and our prediction is more than 0.5 tie-breaks.

In round two, the winner will take on either 18th seed Francisco Cerundolo or unseeded Jaume Munar.

Fearnley reached round two of this grass court Grand Slam a couple of years ago, losing to Novak Djokovic. He made steady progress up the rankings but has struggled this year with only 12 of his 28 matches being won. He has only got past round one of an ATP Tour event once in 2026.

Earlier this month, Fearnley reached the final of the Ilkley Challenger Tour event. 

The last five grass court matches he has played have included a tie-break and nine out of 11 on all surfaces.

Alex Michelsen was 42nd in the last ranking list and that was 110 places above Fearnley. He has not played any warm-up grass court tournaments ahead of this Grand Slam. Two previous visits to Wimbledon have both ended in first round exits.

Michelsen has played four tie-breaks in his last three grass court matches.
