Fourth seed Alejandro Tabilo takes on the unseeded Marton Fucsovics in the semi-finals of the Romanian Open next. Tabilo is only one win away from advancing to a third tour final this year. The Chilean is having his best start to a tour campaign. He won his first-ever tour crown in Auckland and then finished as runner-up on home soil in Santiago. In 24 outings he has won 17 times with seven of those victories coming on clay. Tabilo defeated teenage sensation Joao Fonseca in three sets in the quarter-finals. He came from a set down to secure the victory that moved him into a new career-high world ranking. The 26-year-old is now placed at number 38 in the live ranking.
Marton Fucsovics also had to claw his way from a set down to win his quarter-final tie. This was against Corentin Moutet and the win was his fifth in six outings on clay this year. Fucsovics has won 11 of 18 matches so far and has now moved up a massive 11 places in the live ranking to 71st. The Hungarian has however not had the chance to compete for a title and will hope the time is now. If he wins this tie with Tabilo, Fucsovics will end a three-year wait to grace a tour final. The one-time tour champion last played a championship match in Rotterdam in 2021. The winner here will then play one of Gregoire Barrere, Francisco Cerundolo or Mariano Navone in the final.
