Wimbledon and Ipswich Town are set to face off in the FA Cup third round this Saturday. Both sides are eyeing promotion from their respective leagues but here they put that aside to focus on the cup. In League Two, Wimbledon are doing well and are currently in the promotion playoffs positions. However, they will need to do even better facing a side in two leagues higher. Wimbledon’s first game of 2024 ended in a 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers. They hope to do better here, as they face their toughest test yet in the FA Cup. In the opening two rounds, Wimbledon beat Cheltenham Town and Ramsgate. There’s very little likelihood they’ll score anything close to 10 goals here, like they did in the first two rounds. There’s however no denying their good form in attack, having scored 13 times in the last five games. Seven wins in eight home games will however build their confidence coming here.

Ipswich may have slowed down a bit in the Championship, but coming into this game, they’ll feel like the favorites. They are still within the automatic promotion places in the Championship. Playing in a higher league, they won’t be faulted to feel this is a game they should win. In their recent matches, however, there have been fewer wins than draws. The visitors have posted four draws in their last five matches, the remaining game being a loss. That 4-0 defeat away to Leeds United is Ipswich’s only one in nine matches coming here. The loss is also one of three matches in four that Ipswich failed to score in. They however have two straight clean sheets coming into this game. Two wins in seven away matches suggest there is a lot to improve on for Ipswich.
