France take on Italy in the final match of Group D in the United Cup. The French side top the group ahead of Germany with Italy in bottom place. Adrian Mannarino lost his singles match when France began this group with a match against Germany. He did lose to Alexander Zverev though and his opponent is currently ranked seventh in the world which is 15 places above Mannarino. France battled back to beat Germany 2-1 but Mannarino didn't play in the deciding mixed doubles. The 35-year-old had more wins on hard courts (the surface on which this tournament is being played) than Lorenzo Sonego. Highlights of 2023 included winning three titles, two of them on hard courts.

Italy need to beat France to have a chance of reaching the knockout stages of the United Cup. Their opening group match saw them lose to Germany 2-1 with Sonego also losing in three sets to Alexander Zverev. Sonego then played in the mixed doubles and lost that too with only three games being won, all in the first set. The Italian is ranked 46th in the world but hasn't reached an ATP final since 2022. His best form has been shown on clay and that included reaching a semi-final in Umag. He's won two of his three previous matches against Mannarino but has never beaten him on a hard court.
