A fresh season of Miami Open is here; Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th will serve up the qualifiers. Among the players we will preview is Adam Walton and Mikhail Kukushkin, in the first round of the qualifiers. We have a prediction of the match below.

The winner from this match will take on Stefano Napolitano or Tristan Schoolkate in the final qualification round. At the tour level, this will mark the first ever meeting between these two.

Walton is coming from a straight-set defeat to Hugo Gaston in the first round at the Phoenix Challenger. That was after another early exit at Indian Wells. The Australian comes into this match having compiled a 15-8 record.

Seeking a big impact at the tour level, Kukushkin will be eyeing a better run in Florida. He could only go as far as the second round in Phoenix.

There he lost by retirement after pulling out in the second set when trailing 1-0 against Kei Nishikori. That match marked the fourth time in five matches that he dropped the opening set and he’ll want to do better this time.

Kukushkin failed to advance past the qualification stage at Indian Wells, Dubai, Rotterdam, Australian Open and Doha. A poor run so far in the season has Kukushkin on a 10-10 record.
