Gameweek 13 in the Bundesliga will see Mainz playing host to Freiburg at Mewa Arena on Sunday. The hosts are currently in the relegation playoff spot, while the visitors are in ninth place after 12 matches. Mainz are a long way from the form that saw them finish in the top half of the Bundesliga last season. They have taken just eight points from a possible 36 this term and are just two points above bottom club Koln and one above second-bottom Union Berlin. However, after failing to win their first eight league matches this season, the 05ers have started to show signs of life in recent weeks. They held top-six Hoffenheim to a 1-1 draw last week, marking their fourth consecutive match without a loss. During that time, Mainz also drew with Bochum and Darmstadt while they pulled off a home victory over RB Leipzig. The visitors will look to build on that form but have failed to win an away match in their last ten, dating back to April this year. 

Meanwhile, Freiburg have also experienced a dip in performance this season, down from fifth last term to ninth as it stands. Their 15 points this season leaves them trailing the top five by eight points, while a loss here could see them drop as low as 11th. The visitors recorded a solid 5-0 win over Olympiakos in the Europa League in midweek and will need to bring the same type of form back to their domestic performances. In the Bundesliga, Freiburg have failed to win any of their last four matches, including two draws and two losses. The most recent match ended 1-1 against Darmstadt following the international break. Away from home, the Breisgau Brazilians have found very little joy of late, losing four and drawing one of their last five. However, Freiburg are unbeaten in their last four against this opponent and cannot be written off just yet.
