WTA 1000 Beijing: who will succeed Coco Gauff?
There will be some big names at the WTA 1000 in Beijing starting this Wednesday, with the exception of Aryna Sabalenka, who has decided to sit this one out. all the big names on the WTA tour will be in the Chinese capital to try to win the prestigious title and succeed American Coco Gauff, who won in 2024 and is still a contender for the crown according to our tennis predictions.
In 2025, almost all the top players will be in China to compete for the title. Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini and Qinwen Zheng, to name but a few of the world's top 10 players. On the French side, Lois Boisson (41st in the world) and Elsa Jacquemot (lucky loser) will be our only representatives in the Chinese capital from Wednesday onwards.
Iga Swiatek as the big favourite
Winner of Wimbledon for the first time in her career this summer and of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, Iga Swiatek will be the big favourite at this WTA 1000 in Beijing. The Polish player won the Seoul tournament last week and arrives at this major event in Asia full of confidence.
Having already won here in 2023, the world number two knows what it takes to get the job done. As the number one seed, Iga Swiatek is our favourite to win this Chinese Masters tournament.
Our WTA 1000 Beijing prediction: Iga Swiatek to win the tournament.
Is a back-to-back win possible for Coco Gauff?
Since her victory at Roland Garros last June, Coco Gauff has struggled, with results falling short of her ambitions and expectations for a world number 3. The American did not make it past the round of 16 at the US Open, a result that affected her mentally.
More than three weeks after this disappointment, Coco Gauff has had time to recover and come back with a renewed focus. As the defending champion, the American remains a contender for the final victory, and it would be a mistake to underestimate her, as the two-time Grand Slam winner is capable of anything.
Another surprise from Amanda Anisimova?
A finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open, Amanda Anisimova has entered a new dimension following these top-level performances. The American is now expected to perform at the start of every major tournament, new expectations that the world number four will have to live up to.
Mentally strong, Amanda Anisimova loves the pressure and nothing scares her. There is no doubt that she will be one to watch at this WTA 1000 Beijing tournament, the surprise of the 2025 season.
Special mentions: Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva, Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini.
