Washington’s Creek Park is Set to Host the 13th Edition
The North American summer hard-court season has kicked off in Washington, beginning a 7-week journey that tours the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The seven-day event held at Washington DC will offer the WTA Singles champion up to $197,570 alongside 500 points towards their PIF WTA Ranking.
The Women’s event will be hosted side by side with the ATP, in the only combined WTA-ATP 500-level tournament on the tennis calendar all year round. See all our upcoming tennis predictions.
Venus Williams Returns to Action after 16-Month Hiatus
45-year-old Venus Williams will be one of the stars of the show as all eyes are on her first game since March 2024. Venus Williams is no stranger to the Washington Open, winning seven Grand Slam titles between 2000 and 2008.
After accepting a wild card for the Washington Open, Venus Williams is set to play Payton Stearn in her first appearance in DC since 2022.
Will World No. 4 Taylor Fritz face a Rematch against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard
Taylor Fritz emerged as the Washington Top seed and could now face a much-anticipated rematch with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The previous clash between the two produced exciting scenes, including the world’s fastest recorded serve in Wimbledon history.
Fritz is returning to the Washington Open for the fifth time, with his best showing being a semi-final in 2023. As for Mpetshi, who currently ranks No. 45 in the PIF ATP, he reached the third round after his debut in 2024
Emma Raducanu Could Meet Naomi Osaka in a Major Second-Round Showdown
Emma Raducanu is set to play Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the first round. But all attention is on a potential second-round match-up between Raducanu and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka.
After her third-round Wimbledon defeat to Aryna Sabalenka, Raducanu is playing for the first time. If she reaches the quarter finals, she could face Katie Boulter in a mouth-watering tie.
Daniil Medvedev Set to Face Reilly Opelka
Daniil Medvedev is also set to return to action against Reilly Opelka alongside a qualifier. Danil Medvedev, who is an experienced player will be looking to recreate his career best of 2021 when he won a Grand Slam at the US Open.
However, Opelka, his 6 '11 opponent, will be no easy competition. Opelka’s best showing in this competition is a fourth-round appearance in the 2021 US Open.
Other exciting appearances include Dan Evans, who received a wild card after winning the 2023 Washington event. He will first face Zizou Bergs in the first round.
Cameron Norrie will also play a qualifier in Washington before facing second seed Lorenzo Musetti. Since the men’s draw has more players than that of the women, the top 16 seeds on the men's side all get a bye into the second round.
