England vs New Zealand: Can England Make a Statement Before the World Cup?

Tuchel Handed Selection Dilemma Ahead of New Zealand Friendly
England are one of the most prominent nations when it comes to international football, but that hasn't helped them in overcoming their woes on football's grandest stage. Yes, they have consistently competed at the World Cup finals, but the prestigious trophy has eluded them for 60 long years.
The Three Lions are hoping to put an end to that drought, but that'll depend on how they carry themselves in the warm-up games, which serve as pre-tournament preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup around the corner. They have two international friendly games scheduled, with their first being against New Zealand.
There are some concerns surrounding England at the moment, considering they are about to play in two warm-up fixtures without some of their key players. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke are omitted from the squad following the UEFA Champions League final defeat to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.
For head coach Thomas Tuchel, that may be a blow to the head, but it's also an opportunity to give fringe players a chance to step up and prove their worth. However, Harry Kane is expected to lead the attack this Saturday with the 32-year-old aiming for his 79th international goal in 112 appearances.
One can agree that the Three Lions have been far from impressive after their lacklustre showing in March's International friendlies, where they drew 1-1 against Uruguay and suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Japan in their own backyard. That defeat to the Samurai Blues was their first defeat at home in five games.
Is This the Perfect Test for New Zealand's World Cup Hopes?

For the first time in 16 years, New Zealand get to grace football's grandest stage with their presence. It is their third appearance and are hoping to go the extra mile.
To get here, they claimed the OFC’s only guaranteed place at the global tournament by seeing off New Caledonia's threat, winning 3-0 at Eden Park on the final day. That was merely a statement of intent from a side that had remained undefeated in 27 games at this competition.
The All Whites now shift their focus to the warm-up match against England before beginning their first World Cup match against Iran (Group G) on June 16th. This is not the first time they've crossed paths with the European side, England, having failed to conquer this opponent in 1991.

Darren Bazeley's charges did not have the best of starts in their pre-tournament preparation, suffering a 4-0 defeat against Haiti at Chase Stadium.
They have not performed well on their travels, which could see them fail to get the positive outcome they are searching for to boost their confidence. Besides, going six games without a win, they've lost three consecutive matches, conceding eight goals.
New Zealand failed to score in two of those consecutive matches, but with Chris Wood leading the attack once again, the Nottingham Forest forward will be hoping to inspire his side in front of goal while scoring his 46th international goal.
