The first leg of this tie between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich last week captivated the football world, as the two sides combined for nine goals (5-4) - setting a new scoring record in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals since the competition was rebranded in 1992-93. 

The last time a European final-four clash reached that total was 66 years ago, when Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers shared nine goals in the European Champions’ Cup. The German side went on to win the tie 12-4 on aggregate, a result that still stands as the highest-scoring semi-final tie in European competition. 

Our experts are expecting another open, attack-minded showdown tonight, according to our Bayern Munich vs. PSG prediction, and both Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique have indicated that they are unlikely to alter their approach, setting us up for another edge-of-the-seat blockbuster. 

Kompany’s side must win by at least two goals to book their place in the final. The Bavarians have overturned a first-leg deficit in four of 16 previous UCL ties since 1992-93, but they have never managed to do so in the semis, exiting the tournament on five such occasions. 

However, FCB have a strong home record against the Parisians. They have beaten PSG in five of their last seven home games, four of which were by two or more goals. Additionally, Bayern have only lost one of their last 29 UCL fixtures in Munich and won all six European matches at the Allianz this season.

Bayern vs. PSG: The Staggering Numbers Behind Europe’s Most Lethal Attacks 

As discussed in our Champions League predictions, Bayern has shattered a long-standing scoring record this season. For the first time this century, a club has fielded three players who have combined for more than 100 goals in a single campaign, something that no top-five European league team has done outside of La Liga.

Michael Olise has proven himself to be a master of efficiency in the final third, balancing goal-scoring with creative vision. Complementing him is Luis Diaz, whose dynamic and sometimes erratic style out wide creates the gaps needed for Bayern’s aggressive system to thrive. 

However, Harry Kane remains the focal point of the Bavarians’ devastating frontline. He scored the opener in the 5-4 thriller in Paris last week and has now netted in each of his last five UCL knockout games, equalling the club’s record set by Robert Lewandowski between 2016 and 2018. 

Kane has 13 Champions League goals this term, two shy of this season’s leading goalscorer, Kylian Mbappe. He has 54 goals across all competitions this season and will firmly be in contention for the Ballon d’Or if England makes an impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. 

While PSG’s attacking trio has not produced as staggering numbers as their counterparts, as a team, the reigning kings of Europe are the leading scorers in the Champions League this season with 43 goals, one more than Bayern and two behind the all-time UCL record for a single campaign.

Ousmane Dembele may not be as prolific in Europe this season compared to last, but he delivered an incredible performance in the first leg, stepping up to slot home a penalty before scoring a stunner from outside the box that left Manuel Neuer rooted to the spot. 

Desire Doue produced two assists in the first-leg victory and had a solid all-round performance. What is most impressive about the 20-year-old is his willingness to work off the ball - no player has made more presses per 90 than Doue in Europe’s top five leagues this season. 

However, the star of the Parisians’ attack this season is undoubtedly Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, who put Josip Stanisic through the wringer last week. He ended the first leg with a brace and could have had a handful more had it not been for Neuer and Dayot Upamecano. 

The Georgian international now has 10 goals and five assists in the Champions League this season - the most ever by a PSG player in a single campaign. He is now also just the fourth player to score or assist in six consecutive UCL knockout games, matching Dembele’s feat from last season.
