Atlético Madrid hosts local rivals Real Madrid in what's shaping up to be the highlight of Round 7 in La Liga and the most exciting football game this weekend. Can Atlético trouble the Galacticos at home to turn around what has been a horrible start to their campaign? SportyTrader has all the juicy details.

Atlético Madrid Eyes 3rd La Liga Win Against Local Rivals

Despite losing only one of their six league games so far, the start of this La Liga season has been one to forget for Atlético Madrid. The home side has won just two of six games, and had to rely on hat-trick hero Julian Alvarez to rescue all three points against Rayo Vallecano last time out.

But now, an even tougher challenge stares at them as they host Real Madrid, who have won all six league games to top the table with six points. Yet, Atléti should be confident, especially as they enter this game at home. Why? Because Atlético Madrid have not lost to Real Madrid at the Metropolitano in their last four games, and have only lost one of their last eight dating back to. 2019. See our experts' best Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid prediction.

What's more, Atléti haven't lost at home since April this year, winning six of the seven games they've played at Metropolitano in the league ever since. However, given their poor run this season, which featured 2 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss, a perfect Real Madrid side may be just enough to end their impressive home run.

Real Madrid Seeks To Extend Perfect Record in Metropolitano Test

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid players challenging for the ball

Real Madrid have been unbeatable ever since the 2025/26 campaign kicked off. The Galacticos have won all six of their league games, scoring 14 goals and conceding only 3. The away side also beat Marseille in their opening Champions League game to extend their perfect record to seven wins in seven games.

However, the run may as well end here, given their underwhelming performance at the Metropolitano over the past years. Not only have Real Madrid failed to win at Atléti’s home over their last four meetings, but the visitors have only scored four goals in that span while allowing eight goals.

But as with all rivalries, the tables eventually turn, and today might just be the visitors’ day. Real Madrid may take a draw here to extend their unbeaten run, as they've done so in their last three league meetings. Yet, an away win wouldn't be too surprising given the momentum the Galacticos are coming with.

Real Madrid has also added several new stars and rebuilt their defense with the likes of Alexander Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and Alvaro Carreras. Likewise, wonder-kid Franco Mastantuono just scored his first goal and will be looking to bolster an already stacked attack featuring Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior with Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Federico Valverde securing the midfield.
