Mikel Arteta has spent years turning the Emirates Stadium into a fortress, and tonight, that atmosphere will be Arsenal's greatest weapon. While Atlético Madrid prided themselves on their home form, they failed to kill the tie in Spain.

Now, they have to travel to a ground where visiting teams have struggled to win, let alone take a draw.

Since the 2023-24 season, Arsenal has boasted the 2nd-highest home win rate in Europe, recording 77.8%. Interestingly, Atleti are just right behind with the exact same win rate.

The problem is that the Spanish side already missed their golden opportunity to take a lead to London, and now they must face an Arsenal side that feels invincible in front of their own people.

Can Simeone’s Dark Arts Ruin The Day in London?

You can’t rule out Los Colchoneros in your football predictions just yet. If there’s anyone who could make a knockout game a tricky affair, it’s Simone and his Atletico Madrid side.

Already, Atleti boasts the 3rd-highest goals (35) scored in the Champions League, just behind Bayern and PSG.

The only problem is that Atletico Madrid has also conceded the 2nd-most goals (27) in the entire campaign, allowing just three fewer than Qarabag FK.

And a lot of those goals were from bad performances on the road. In the league phase, they were almost flawless at home, but were winless in three of their four away games, of which one was the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of this same Arsenal side.

Same story in the knockout phase. Since the playoffs, Atleti have drawn one (3-3 with Brugge), lost one (3-2 to Tottenham), and won one (2-0 over Barcelona).

It’s true that Simeone’s pragmatic style is the kind managers fear in the knockouts. But with only two wins in seven away games in the UCL this season, this might be Arteta’s game to lose. If Arsenal can use their home advantage to crush the spirit of the Madridistas, they head to the final. If they blink, Simeone will be there to drag them back into the shadows.
