Adrian Mannarino is the 19th seed for the Italian Open but is struggling for form at present. He takes on unseeded Zhizhen Zhang in round two of this outdoor clay court tournament. Up next for the winner is a match against either 12th seed Ben Shelton or unseeded Pavel Kotov. Mannarino is the world number 21 but down at 55th in the ATP Live Race. The Frenchman comes into this tournament having lost his last four matches. The most recent of those was in the Challenger Tour event held in Aix-en-Provence, where he lost to Richard Gasquet. The 35-year-old has only played two clay court matches this year. The other was in Madrid where he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime and won just four games, all in the second set. His record in the Italian Open is nothing to write home about. In ten previous appearances, he's only won one match and that was in the qualifying rounds ten years ago.

Zhizhen Zhang is the world number 56 and up two places in the live rankings. The Chinese player is up to 89th in the ATP Live Race after his straight sets first round win over Daniel Elahi Galan. He's also been struggling this year with his best being a quarter-final in the indoor hard court tournament played in Marseille. On clay, Zhang got to round two in Monte Carlo but lost in his first match in Madrid. He did reach round three at Roland Garros last year and this is his first time in the main draw in Rome.
