Wessel Nijman and Michael van Gerwen will face off in the sixth match of the opening round at the 2025 World Series of Darts finals at the AFAS Live on Friday. The winner of this clash between Nijman and Mighty Mike will face either Rob Cross or Haupai Puha in round two. Let’s get into the match prediction.
After beating Owen Bates 6-1 during qualifying, Wessel Nijman will be making his second consecutive WSOD Finals appearance this year, following a run to the last 16 in 2024.
The 25-year-old rising star has made two finals on the European Tour and one in the Players Championship (25) this year, though he has not won a Major tournament in 2025.
Nijman reached the last 16 at the PC27 in midweek before losing 6-1 to Michael Unterbuchner and has now won seven of his last 10 matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, 2025 has been a difficult year for Michael van Gerwen, as he has only won one Major title to date - the 2025 German Darts Grand Prix back in April.
MVG failed to qualify for the Premier League Playoffs for only the second time in 13 years this year and suffered a first-round defeat to Callan Rydz at PC26 before withdrawing from PC27 earlier this week.
While his class is unquestionable, Van Gerwen has now lost four of his last five matches, though this opponent has never beaten him in three previous encounters.

Our Wessel Nijman vs Michael van Gerwen Prediction
Wessel Nijman has enjoyed a progressive year so far and enters this competition in good form, having won seven of his last 10 matches, while reaching the quarter-final in each of the last two Players Championships.
A lack of rhythm and injuries have hampered Michael van Gerwen tremendously this season, and he will know better than most that a solid win here will be crucial to regaining some confidence. However, we feel it will not be easy for MVG here against his in-form compatriot. Our Wessel Nijman vs Michael van Gerwen prediction is over 8.5 legs.
