It is back to the sprinters on Stage 5 of La Vuelta. There is half a chance that Stage 7 will suit the stronger sprinters with a long Category 2 climb but then a flat finish so perhaps we have not seen the last of them but this is the only genuine flat stage of La Vuelta to make a prediction on.
The score is 1-1 between Wout Van Aert and Kaden Groves. Groves landed Stage 2 when Van Aert was left alone by his team a little too far from the line. The Belgian got his revenge when all the work was done by Groves' Alpecin-Deceuninck team in Stage 3.
There is very little between the pair and this is the most sprinter-friendly stage of La Vuelta. That should set things up for another excellent sprint between the pair and after those two results earlier in the week, it is hard to see anyone else being able to get involved barring a mishap.
They have both taken advantage of the other misreading, the situation so it will be interesting to see who is able to get everything right to take this stage. As we have said before on La Vuelta, Groves is the more natural sprinter of the pair for all that Van Aert is more than capable in a sprint.
For those looking for a rider or two at a bigger price, then there is Pavel Bittner. He was sixth in Stage 2 and then fifth in Stage 3 so he has been in the mix when it comes to the sprints. Another to consider is Bryan Coquard who will not be happy with his performance in the first two sprint stages. He will surely be desperate to make an impression.

It is hard to see this being anything other than a sprinter's day. There are not enough of them during La Vuelta for the big teams to give up any opportunity for them to let a break go up the road too far and take a stage away. With a flat stage, the pace will be high coming into the finish in Seville where a 180-degree turn with 4km to go could cause problems but the last 3.5km is straight to the finish. That makes it a traditional sprint and means our La Vuelta Stage 5 prediction is a win for Kaden Groves.
