Victoria Azarenka has achieved her best result in Miami since her semifinal run in 2018. As a three-time champion here, the former world number one has grown in confidence with each passing round. She has won her last two fixtures without dropping a set. The Belarussian defeated Katie Boulter by the loss of six games last time out. This was her 13th win in 18 outings this season. Azarenka has defeated Putinstesa both times they have met with their last showdown taking place two seasons ago in Doha.

Yulia Putintseva is one win away from setting a new personal record in WTA 1000 events. This is also her best-ever campaign in Miami. Before this season, the Kazakh had never gone past the fourth round here. She defeated Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets to get to this round. Putintseva is having a strong season and has so far compiled a 14-8 record. All 22 matches have been contested on hard courts. The 29-year-old has been one of the form players in the circuit in March and has won seven of eight matches. Advancing to this round has propelled her a massive 16 places to 52nd place in the live ranking.
