Iga Swiatek is hoping to make her season a bit better when she switches to grass at Bad Homburg. Her opening match on the surface will be a second-round fixture against qualifier Victoria Azarenka. Below is our prediction.

This marks the sixth meeting between the players, and the winner will face Ekaterina Alexandrova or Maria Sakkari. Azarenka has already negotiated three rounds here, beating Caty McNally and Veronika Kudermetova in the qualifiers.

In the first round she saw off local favorite Laura Siegemund and will be quite motivated for this. It is her second appearance here, and Azarenka has already surpassed her 2021 performance by reaching the second round.

Swiatek has really dropped this season, and on a surface that’s never her best, she will be trying to get her best results. Her best performance on grass was actually here at Bad Homburg, back in 2023, when she graced the semis.

By way of walkover back then, she lost to Lucia Bronzetti. This time she will be eyeing a better run, and the fact that she hasn’t lost a second-round match this season offers her a confidence boost in this match.

Bad Homburg will be great for her build-up to Wimbledon. In her last outing, the Pole lost to Aryna Sabalenka in three sets at the French Open semi-finals.
