Ugo Humbert vs Marcos Giron Prediction & Betting Tips - Basel, Switzerland, Qualifying

Ugo Humbert begins his hard court Swiss Indoor Championships campaign with a first round match against Marcos Giron. The winner will take on either seventh seed Nicolas Jarry or the unseeded Adrian Mannarino in round two. Humbert is the current world number 28 but down a couple of places in the live rankings. That's because he is defending the points earned in this tournament last year when the French player got to the last 16. He comes into this tournament in good form after a quarter final appearance in the recent Shanghai Masters where he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas. Before that he made it to the last 16 in Beijing, beating Andrey Rublev, so some scalps as he gets back to the good form shown on American hard courts in July.

Marcos Giron will be hoping to continue the good form shown in Tokyo last week. The American reached the last four (losing to Ben Shelton) and that saw him rise 22 places in the world rankings to 57th. That's only eight places below the career high he achieved in May 2022. Giron had to win two qualifying matches in Tokyo and in the main draw he had wins over Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime before losing to Shelton in three sets after winning the first. That was the 30-year-old's first ATP Tour semi-final of 2023. It was a return to form though as he hadn't won two matches in a tournament since August. He'll certainly want to better than his only previous match against Humbert. That was three years ago on a hard court surface and Giron only won one game. He can do better this time but we go for Humbert to get the win.
