Turkey could only finish fourth in their World Cup qualifying group behind Iceland, Croatia and Ukraine and were five points adrift of the play-off position. It was their away form that cost them dearly with the only win away at Kosovo and just five points from five away matches. Home form kept them in the hunt with three wins, a draw and the only defeat being a 3-0  loss to group winners Iceland. Their two friendlies in March lived up to that Jekyll and Hyde reputation with a home win over the Republic of Ireland and an away draw in Montenegro. Turkey have only lost two of their last nine home games and need to get some form going before their Nations League group against Russia and Sweden.

The Iranian side qualified for Russia by comfortably winning their group by seven points from South Korea and were unbeaten in the group with six wins and four draws. They only won two of their five away games and just two goals were scored in those matches.In the ten group games, Iran only scored ten goals but conceded just twice. They will do well to keep up that defensive record in Russia as they have to take on Spain, Portugal and Morrocco. Recent games have produced just one loss in their last 14, a 1-0 loss in Tunisia in March of this year. Away friendly results are promising with wins in Venezuela and Montenegro last year and a draw with Russia. A bet on under 2.5 goals is the suggested bet for this game.
