Tour de France - Stage 9 Predictions & Betting tips - Tour de France
by Matthew Newman |
Stage 9 of the Tour de France is another one for the sprinters. The last three times the tour has come to Châteauroux, the winner has been Mark Cavendish. A new name will be added in 2025. Read our prediction to find out who we think it will be.
The sprint stages have been a mess so far. Cross winds split the peloton in Stage 1, the winner of that stage crashed out of the tour in Stage 3, and then Tim Merlier had a mechanical issue 12km from the finish of Stage 8 that cost our prediction any chance.
It was Jonathan Milan who ended up taking Stage 8, now a stage winner on all three of the main tours. His task was no doubt made easier with Merlier out of contention, holding off Wout van Aert in the sprint to add to his lead in the green jersey.
Van Aert is a very smart rider, just one win shy of 10 in the Tour de France but he lacked the pace to challenge Milan. It looks like Merlier is the only rider who is genuinely capable of competing with Milan at the finish of Stage 9, he just needs far better luck than he has had so far.

Our Tour de France - Stage 9 - Tour de France prediction
Stage 8 was a disaster for Tim Merlier, so he is going to be desperate to put that behind him and get back to doing what he does best, winning races. This looks like a two-horse race between him and Jonathan Milan, who was the Stage 8 winner.
There does not look to be any depth to the sprinting division behind them in the tour, so it is no surprise that the bookmakers have priced them up as the only two possible winners. Our Tour de France Stage 9 prediction is a Tim Merlier win to make up for his Stage 8 disappointment.
