Tour de France - Stage 18 Predictions & Betting tips - Tour de France
by Matthew Newman |
It is back into the mountains for Stage 18 of the Tour de France, and this stage is brutal. Three huge climbs mean that this is a day where the general classification can be won or lost, so it's the big GC boys that have to make up our prediction.
Tadej Pogacar has one arm inside the winners' yellow jersey already, and a strong ride here on the toughest stage of the tour should just about guarantee him the top step on the podium. Stage 19 is another difficult one, but his time gap over Jonas Vingegaard is starting to look sufficient.
Naturally, Vingegaard will be his biggest rival once more. Team Visma has tried every trick in the book to crack Pogacar, with Vingegaard attacking as hard as possible on multiple occasions up Ventoux on Tuesday to no avail. Time is running out for him to win this race.
A big group of strong climbers will go into the break again. The likes of Ben Healy, Thymen Arensman, Ben O'Connor, Michael Woods and Lenny Martinez will all be looking to get away, with three of them looking to claim the King of the Mountains jersey.
The last time the tour came to Courchevel, it was Félix Gall who took the stage. He showed up well on the climb to Luchon-Superbagnères. His attack on that Hors category climb suggests that he has it in the legs.

Our Tour de France - Stage 18 - Tour de France prediction
This is another one of those stages where if Tadej Pogacar wants to win the stage, he probably will, though he cracked on this last climb that day.. He is the 1.73 favourite with the bookmakers, so although he is the most likely winner, there are bigger prices each way that make a little more appeal.
It is a tough stage for a breakaway, but there have been some impressive climbing performances on the mountain stages so far. Our Tour de France Stage 18 prediction is Félix Gall each way, who could win this from a break but also from the main peloton.
