Jack Draper is the eighth seed for the Geneva Open clay court tournament. He begins his campaign with a match against unseeded Tomas Machac. The winner goes into the last 16 and will meet a qualifier. Draper is currently 35th in the live rankings and unlikely to be seeded at Roland Garros. The British number two is 36th in the Live ATP Race and is 4-4 on clay courts this year. Two of those three losses were inflicted by Hubert Hurkacz, the others by Taylor Fritz and most recently in Rome, Daniil Medvedev. It takes a good player to beat him therefore with the lowest of those players who've recently beaten him being ranked 12th in the live rankings. He's lost both of his previous matches against Machac but this is their first meeting on clay.

Tomas Machac is 44th in the live rankings and that's just one place below his career-high. This is his first tournament since the Madrid Masters after pulling out of the Italian Open due to injury. Machac has reached two ATP Tour quarter-finals this year but both were on hard courts. This is only his third clay court tournament of the year. In Barcelona he reached the last 32 after winning one match but then withdrew from his next match.
