This looks like being one of the matches of the Australian Open fourth round. Seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on the 12th seed Taylor Fritz for a place in the quarter finals. That last eight match will be against either top seed Novak Djokovic or 20th seeded Adrian Mannarino. Tsitsipas was ranked sixth at the start of this year but is down at ninth in the live rankings. He's defending the points earned when losing to Novak Djokovic in last year's final. The Greek has an excellent record in this hard court Grand Slam and has made it to three other semi-finals as well as that title decider. 2024 began for Tsitsipas in the United Cup with one win and a loss to Alexander Zverev. In this tournament, he's beaten a lucky loser and two unseeded players and dropped sets in two of those matches.

Taylor Fritz has only won one of his four previous matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The first three were all lost but the American finally beat him in their last meeting on clay in Monte Carlo last year. Fritz was ranked 12th when this Grand Slam began but is now up to tenth. He also won and lost one match in the United Cup. A win here will take him into only his third Grand Slam quarter final. The other two have come at Wimbledon and the US Open. This is only his second time in the fourth round of the Australian Open. He had to go to a final set to get past Facundo Diaz Acosta in the first round after trailing two sets to one. He also dropped a set against Fabian Marozsan in the third round. We go for over 3.5 sets to be played in this match.
