The opponent in the last eight will be either fourth seed Karen Khachanov or unseeded Alexander Vukic. His title defence began with a first round win over Miomir Kecmanovic in a real marathon of a match. He lost the first set on a tie-break but won the next two via the same method. That was his first win on the ATP Tour in 2024, his only other win at any level was against Alex Bolt in Surbiton last week. It took him three sets to get the win over van de Zandschulp with the middle set being the one lost.
