Gibson outlasted Francesca Jones, a crowd favorite, in the first round. She won in three sets, battling to put an end to a four-match losing streak.
Gibson had ended her clay season with back-to-back losses and began the grass season by losing in successive fixtures in Birmingham and London. Now with 26 wins, the Australian will be keen to return to the explosive form she started the year with.
