Sweden and Moldova meet in a friendly at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on Thursday with one eye on their respective Euro qualifying campaigns. Sweden are third in their Group F of the Euro qualifiers with a seven-point gap to the top-two teams. With only nine points to play for, Sweden have a tough ask to make up that gap to Belgium and Austria. Yet, they wouldn’t be giving up things easily and will be looking to make the most of this friendly. Historically, Sweden have won each of their eight matches against Moldova across all competitions and friendlies. This sequence saw them score 21 goals and concede just three, for an average of three goals per game.

Moldova are in with a better chance of qualification from their Group E qualification campaign. They are third with eight points, which is same as the second-placed Czech Republic in that group and two behind leaders Albania. With Poland only two points behind, Moldova will be looking at this friendly to get some practice before playing Poland in a crucial Euro qualifier. With two wins and a draw from their last three games prior to this friendly, they are in good form to avoid losing a ninth straight match to Sweden. Crucially though, they will have to overcome their poor record in the friendlies having lost four and drawn one of their last five such games.
