Sturm Graz will welcome Sporting Lisbon on Thursday for the two teams’ 2023/24 Europa League opening round fixture. The two teams will compete in Group D of this season’s tournament alongside Atalanta and Raków Częstochowa. Sturm Graz have not lost in any of their last five matches and have won four times. This has been the perfect response to their Champions League elimination. Christian Ilzer’s men lost 7-2 on aggregate to PSV in the third round of the Champions League qualifiers. After winning four straight games, Sturm were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Salzburg in the Bundesliga last time out. Ruben Amorim’s men arrive for this match off the back of a 3-0 success at home against Moreirense. The result allowed them to get back to winning ways. Sporting saw their 100% start to the season come to an end before the September international break after a 1-1 draw with Braga. The Lions made it to the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season and will hope for another deep run.
