Sebastian Baez will look to return to winning ways heading into this match after a disappointing outing in the Cincinnati Open early this month. The seven-time ATP singles champion lost 7-5, 6-4, against World No. 33 Gabriel Diallo to crash out of the tournament in the opening round. 

This result marked his third defeat in four matches. He has also lost 10 of his 11 matches on hard courts, including four of his last five meetings with lower-ranked players on the surface. The 24-year-old has also suffered defeats in his last two meetings with Pablo Carreño-Busta.

Pablo Carreño-Busta won his last match, easing past World No. 149 Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets to book his ATP Winston-Salem round 32 slot. The Spanish star won 6-0, 6-3 in against the Japanese player to rack up his second victory in four matches. 

Notably, the World No.113 has been a nightmare for opponents on hard courts. He has won 13 of his last 16 matches played on the surface, including his two encounters with the 40th-ranked Sebastian Baez.
