There isn’t much to separate San Miguel Beermen and Barangay Ginebra in the 2020 Philippe Cup ahead of their round seven encounter. San Miguel are 4th in the team standings with four wins and two losses, while Barangay are 3rd with the same record of four wins and two losses. With the race for top-four expected to be tighter, this is a chance for San Miguel to move up the standings.
After starting the Cup campaign with a 94-78 win over Magnolia Hotshots, San Miguel fell to back-to-back losses. They lost 87-83 to Rain or Sine Paint and then defeated 107-88 by leaders TNT KaTropa. As the losses were against the top two sides of the competition, it was on expected lines. True to that, San Miguel bounced back immediately with three straight wins. That included an 89-82 win over Meralco Bolts in the most recent fixture.
Barangay travel here with two losses in two matches in this cup competition. They started well with four wins at the top – Road Warriors, Blackwater and Meralco have been brushed aside. However, losses to Magnolia (102-92) and Rain or Shine (85-82) brought them back to earth. With a familiar opposition ahead, it is time for Barangay to make the historical record count and get back to winning ways.
