One of the surprise matchups of the second round in the 2025 European Darts Championship will see Ryan Searle taking on Gian van Veen on Saturday night. The winner of this match between Heavy Metal and the Giant will face either Martin Schindler or Ryan Joyce in the quarter-final. Let’s get into the match prediction!
For a second year in a row, Ryan Searle has qualified for the second round of the European Darts Championship after stunning world number six Jonny Clayton 6-3 in his opening match.
Heavy Metal averaged 92.56 and equalled the Ferret’s one maximum in the match. However, he was much better on the outer ring (46.15%) and recorded a highest checkout of 97.
That win ended Searle’s three-match losing streak and took his record to six wins and four defeats in his last 10 matches in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Gian van Veen secured his second-round berth with a very impressive 6-3 victory over world number 12 Damon Heta in the opening round in Dortmund.
Van Veen and Heta recorded identical checkout rates (42.86%), but the young Dutchman out-averaged the Aussie 98.73 to 93.97 and pinned two 180s to his opponent’s one maximum.
The Giant has now won four of his last five matches in all competitions, but was beaten by his upcoming opponent in their only meeting this year.
