Roman Safiullin vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Stuttgart Open

Eighth seeded Roman Safiullin has a tough draw in the opening round of Stuttgart's BOSS Open. He faces unseeded Matteo Berrettini in this outdoor grass court tournament. The winner will be up against either wild card Denis Shapovalov or qualifier Matteo Martineau in the last 16. Safiullin is the world number 43 and last year reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals losing to Jannik Sinner in four sets. That was a big step up for Safiullin who had only played four grass court matches in the previous two years with a 2-2 record. He didn't do so well in this tournament last year and was beaten in the first qualifying round by Benjamin Hassan who was ranked 295th at the time. He also lost in the second qualifying round in 2022 but his current ranking has earned him a seeding this year. 2024 hasn't been an easy year for him and he's lost his last three matches. Safiullin has only got past the last 16 of one ATP Tour event this year and that was back in January.

Matteo Berrettini is a former Wimbledon finalist but has seen his career hit by injuries in recent years. The 2021 finalist also reached the last 16 at Wimbledon last year. Berrettini is back in the top 100 and 93rd in the live rankings. The Italian won the Marrakech clay court title in April but hasn't played since the Monte Carlo Masters played the following week. He's won four grass court titles in his career and has twice been the champion in Stuttgart. He can open this year's campaign with a win over the eighth seed.
