The Frenchman has grabbed the lifeline accorded to him to play in the main draw with both hands after his qualifying elimination. Gasquet has struggled with his form and currently has won just one more match than the 11 he has lost. Pedro Martinez has also moved up the world rankings. He is now up to 70th in the live ranking which is a seven-place leap. The Spaniard has been in terrific form and arrives for this tie having won seven successive matches. He arrived in Estoril off the back of a title run in the Girona Challenger. That momentum has seen him win his first two rounds here without dropping a set. The 26-year-old, who has so far compiled a 10-2 record on clay, defeated compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in the last round. The win improved his record to 16-6. Martinez was a semifinalist in Santiago which is his season highlight at tour level.
