Ibrox is set to ignite on a super Sunday in Glasgow, as Rangers and Celtic face off in the most familiar and unforgiving fixture in the Scottish Premiership - it’s the Old Firm derby! The Gers are down in seventh place, while the Bhoys are already atop the league standings after three games. Check out our feature match prediction below!
It’s the first Old Firm clash of the 2025-26 season, and both of our Glaswegian giants enter it licking European wounds. The Light Blues were left blue and black after a 9-1 aggregate beating at the hands of Club Brugge, while the Hoops’ UCL progress ended with a pride-pummeling penalty shootout defeat to the plucky Kairat of Kazakhstan.
This then represents the perfect opportunity to lift spirits after a deflating week for the winner of this match. For the loser, it's another dagger, and we’re only a month into the campaign! Plenty at stake - let’s get into the key stats.

Rangers - Celtic: Form Analysis
It’s still very early in the season, but you get the feeling that this is a match that Russell Martin simply cannot afford to lose. Following the defeat to Club Brugge in midweek, he now has a 30% win rate - the lowest among Rangers managers who have served for 10+ games.
None of those wins have come in the Premiership, with the Gers drawing all three of their league matches this season 1-1 against Motherwell, Dundee and St. Mirren, respectively. They have only won two of their last 10 in the top flight.
The hosts are unbeaten in their last four at the Ibrox Stadium (W2 D2) and also took four points at this venue against their Old Firm rivals last season.
Rangers have only kept one clean sheet in their last 16 league games!
Meanwhile, aside from becoming the biggest upset of this season’s Champions League qualifiers, Celtic have made an impressive start domestically. They are the only team with a perfect record in the top flight after three games.
The Hoops’ goalless draw against Kairat in midweek was their third consecutive clean sheet across all competitions, while they’ve only conceded a single goal in six competitive games this season.
The visitors had the league’s best away record last season (W13 D3 L3), but they have not won at the home of the Teddy Bears since September 2023.

Rangers & Celtic Squad Analysis
It will be interesting to see if Russell Martin starts Max Aarons here or opts to take the right-back out of the firing line amid a tough start to life in Glasgow, worsened by that sending off in midweek.
James Tavernier will almost certainly step into the backline if Aarons does not start. Dujon Sterling is a long-term absentee and the only confirmed player sidelined for the hosts this week.
Cyriel Dessers returned to the bench in Belgium but did not feature - perhaps understandably given the circumstances. He will likely be brought into the starting 11 in place of Danilo for this match.
Benjamin Nygren has scored three goals in his last two league games!
Indeed, the Swede has hit the ground running since arriving from Nordsjaelland, currently the joint-top scorer in the Prem, while he also has an assist to his name.
Daizen Maeda had very little impact when deployed as the centre-forward against Kairat, and he will likely be moved back out to the flank, with Adam Idah brought in to lead the line.
Maeda and Kieran Tierney will be particularly interested in their opponent's decision at right back (assuming they make up the left side of attack). Jota will remain on the sidelines until next year through injury.

Our Rangers vs Celtic Prediction
Despite mounting pressure, Russell Martin has stuck to his guns so far this season, backing his envisioned expansive play style, which is something we saw during his time at Southampton.
Many understandably feel that a Gers loss here will mark the end of their new bosses’ short reign. However, if that is to be the case, it will likely result in Martin adopting an even more attacking mindset in search of the victory. All things considered, this match feels like it will produce goals. Our Rangers vs Celtic prediction is over 2.5 & BTTS.
Rangers vs Celtic - Other Interesting Predictions
Rangers or X
Despite Rangers' underwhelming performances of late, they are unbeaten in the league this season and in their last three home games against this opponent. Given they are big outsiders here, this could be worth a cheeky punt.
