Rangers face Alloa Athletic this weekend in the Scottish League Cup Second Round at Ibrox. Russell Martin's Gers team have not enjoyed the best start to the season, but did progress in Europe in midweek. Andy Graham's Wasps, though, have started the season strongly, both in the league and in this cup competition. Rangers have played six competitive games this season, drawing three, winning two, losing one. However, they have come through two rounds of Champions League qualifying to reach the playoffs. In the league, they drew both league matches 1-1, firstly away to Motherwell and then last weekend at home to Dundee to lie sixth in the table. In midweek, they lost 2-1 at Viktoria Plzen, but led 3-0 from the first leg in Glasgow to progress 4-2 on aggregate in the Champions League.
Andy Graham's Alloa have also been busy this season and had won all four of their League Cup Group Stage games, as well as both league games, beating Stenhousemuir 2-1 away from home and then East Fife 1-0 also on the road last weekend. However, the Wasps did taste defeat for the first time in midweek, losing 2-1 to Stranraer in the Scottish Challenge Cup on Tuesday. They currently lie second in the Scottish League One table.
