RAAL La Louviere begin their first ever Belgium Pro League campaign at home to Standard Liege on Saturday. RAAL secured promotion from the Challenger Pro League last season despite only joining the national leagues in 2017. Their opponents, Les Rouches, are one of the biggest names in Belgian football, but struggled last season. This is a tricky game to make a prediction for, so check out our view on this match below!
A fantastic end to last season saw La Louviere complete a rapid rise through the Belgian football pyramid to the top flight. Four successive wins, including a final day 2-1 win over Lommel was enough to see them finish second in the table. Standard had a poor season by their own standards, finishing 12th, drawing 16 of of their 40 games, including seven of the last ten.
Heading into the season, La Louviere won one, drew two and lost two of their five friendly games. That included a 1-1 draw away to Gent, a 1-0 home win over Union Namur and most recently, a 2-1 home defeat by Lokeren-Temse.
In contrast, Standard completed an unbeaten pre-season. A 3-0 away win at Aubel was followed by a 2-0 home win over MVV Maastricht. A trip to France across the border to play Lens finished in a 2-2 draw before they then finished with a 2-0 home win over Albert Quevy-Mons.
