Swansea City failed to reach the top six in the first half of the season and will eye a better start to 2025. The Swans’ first game of the year will be away to struggling Portsmouth. Below we have a prediction for this match.

Portsmouth haven't had a great return to the Championship. They are currently in the relegation region, two points below the safety line. In the run up to this match, they lost two straight matches.

The 3-0 defeat at Bristol City was their third loss in four matches and they’ve won once in five games. Pompey have, however, done well in recent home matches, winning three of the last four.

Swansea’s target to grace the top six may not be achieved in their first game of the new year but they remain in contention. Their ending in 2024 was more positive than Portsmouth’s. 

The Swans posted two straight wins for the third time this season. Both matches were at home and they’ll be targeting a good away outing too. 

They haven't won three matches in a row and this is, therefore, a good chance. Their latest away match ended in a 2-1 defeat at Hull City ending their three-match unbeaten away streak.
