Fifth seed Anna Bondar takes on the unseeded Polona Hercog in the opening round at the WTA event in Rabat. The winner of their second career meeting will face off with Emiliana Arango or Ella Seidel next. The last time these two faced off, a decider was needed, and as both have done well on clay, the same is our prediction here.

Polona Hercog is back in Rabat and has ended a seven-year hiatus. She is a two-time quarter-finalist at this event. The Slovenian is coming off a quarterfinal finish at the ITF event in Zagreb.

She won two matches at the tournament to improve to a 22-11 record. The 35-year-old, who has largely been competing outside the tour, defeated Bondar in their only other encounter three years ago in the Challenger circuit. Hercog is ranked 217th in the live ranking.

Anna Bondar is ranked more than 150 places above Hercog is in the WTA at world number 58. She is therefore the favorite to win their latest duel.

The Hungarian, who has competed solely in the tour this season, has compiled a 17-12 record. Most of her wins, 10, have come in 14 outings on clay.

Bondar, who is also a former Rabat quarter-finalist, is coming off an opening-round loss in Rome. That disappointing outing came after she had qualified for the fourth round in Madrid.
