An unseeded player will make it through to round two of the Korea Open in Seoul. That's because qualifier Priscilla Hon takes on lucky loser Polina Kudermetova in round one. Here's our match prediction.
The winner of this match will face the seventh seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round of this WTA 500 hard court tournament. Hon is ranked 197th in the latest list which is well short of her career high 118th.
To play in this main draw, the Australian had to win two qualifying matches. That wasn't too difficult for her with both matches won in straight sets and only 12 games being lost by the 26-year-old.
This is her first tournament since the US Open. Hon won three qualifying matches but then faced eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the first round and lost in straight sets, winning six games.
Most of her year has been spent playing in lower level tournaments. One title has been won and that was played on a hard court. Two other semi-finals have been reached this year by the Australian.
Polina Kudermetova is the world number 163 and lost in the final quallfying round to Lu Jiajing in straight sets. The withdrawal of Guadalajara champion Magdalena Frech saw Kudermetova back in as a luckly loser.
Kudermetova has also spent a lot of time playing on lower circuits and like her opponent has won one hard court title this year. The 21-year-old is more at home on clay though and this is only her third hard court tournament since March.
